Catholic Boarding Schools

It is a rather funny thing how certain institutions have garnered for themselves a reputation over the years. Often these reputations are unfounded or horribly exaggerated making the institution seem a lot worse then they actually are. A wonderful example of this natural occurrence amongst people is Catholic boarding schools. Just saying those three words is enough to make some people shudder in horror and head for the hills. The blame lies with movies and television - as with most things these days - for giving these places of education such a terrible reputation. In actual fact, they are not as bad as they seem.

Hollywood and the producers of television programs would have us believe that Catholic boarding schools are the most terrible places on the planet where a person's individuality is suppressed to make room for something greater. The rules are strict, the teachers are mean and evil and all who go to these places need to fear the nuns who are out to get each and every one of the children there. While this image is a great setting for any number of Hollywood blockbusters they are quite far from the truth. In fact, the way that most Catholic boarding schools have changed to accommodate the modern world is quite incredible.

One of the greatest misconceptions that most people have of Catholic boarding schools is the idea that all the classes are given by the nuns or priests. This was the fact many years ago and in some modern schools the nuns or priests still do give class but things have changed. The way that education has changed over the years has made it necessary for these schools hire professional teachers that know their subject field better than anyone else. In fact, many of these schools are private schools so they try to reach a level of excellence that only a teacher that has made it their life's task to be the best in his or subject will be able to maintain. While the nuns and priests will certainly be an aspect of everyday life for the children and teenagers there, they are certainly not the only people they will meet.

The defining factor of Catholic boarding schools is actually the fact that the school is built, based and run on Catholic principles. This means that the children attending the school are immersed in Catholic dogma and practices. Though it will differ from school to school there is often at least one weekly mass for the whole school. The children are not only taught the necessary that schools teach, but also do a study and learn a lot about Catholicism in the process. A misperception is that these schools force children to think a certain way. While history may have had its culprits, there are few such schools existing today. Above all things a Catholic boarding school is a stable, safe place where children can focus on learning in an environment conducive to the task at hand.

Looking out at Trinity

Mind:

There is a healing process that takes place for troubled girls when you combine animal therapy, emotional growth and experiential education in the beauty of nature. Young women will gain strengths, develop the importance of trust in relationships and build self esteem from the accomplishments that they personally will achieve.

Body:

Young women are preoccupied with their appearances because of the American culture. Society is focusing on “lookism”. Everything from toothpaste to homes is advertised with some kind of sex appeal. Your daughter is bombarded with the pressure of looking “in”. Because of this preoccupation with “fitting-in”, most young women are depriving their bodies of the nutrients it needs. They have poor eating habits or addictions that prevent their bodies from being healthy. We help your daughter to value herself and to find the beauty that lies within her. We will provide your daughter with pharmaceutical grade nutritional supplements to help cleanse and rebuild her cells, and a high protein, complex carbohydrate diet that will aid in the healing process. This nutritional support will decrease mood swings, help curb addictions, and provide her with long term benefits for her arrival home.

Soul:

Struggling teens are constantly battling to “belong to something”. Our culture has become one of
gangs, cliques, clubs, and cults. The cost to join is changing your daughter’s values and moral beliefs.
Girls desperately need something or someone to believe in, and someone to believe in them. We will gently guide her into a relationship with God and help her open her heart to His kindness in the serenity of His creation. Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous have demonstrated and proven that this is the only approach for long term success in overcoming behavioral issues.
